Mental Health

Arthur Fleck, the man who becomes the eponymous villain, is shown from the very beginning to be a very troubled man. He is stuck in a system that only half-heartedly cares for meeting his needs, with an equal and increasingly dysfunctional capacity to serve them. This recurring problem is one of the linchpins in Fleck’s descent from instability into outright dangerous madness. It points directly to very real yet often overlooked issues in many modern mental healthcare systems, as well as a general misconception of mental health still present amongst many populations. Another scathing rebuke of the real-life mental health situation is the fact that Fleck’s hard life growing up being based on a lie and being highly abusive is something never once considered by the Gotham public at large, let alone most individuals that come to interact with Arthur himself even at an intricate and delicate level.
